Description

An examination, by Doug Brugge, of the period in history in the early 1940's when uranium mining was developed on the Navajo nation.  Offering jobs during a difficult period when country was rebuilding from the devasting depression of the 1930's.

Although this nuclear age brought needed jobs for young Navajo men, the federal government and mining companies knew of the hazards of mining uranium.  Miners were not educated and many formed fatal cancers.   A team of Navajo people and anglo supporters created the Navajo Uranium Miner Oral History Project, to chronicle the stories and experiences of these miners.
